The Poconos
Beltzville State Park
Belztville State Park was born when the US Army Corps of Engineers built the Beltzville Dam near the town of Lehighton in the Poconos. As with lots of dams, the area in front of the dam became a park and recreation area for public use. Beltzville State Park is very popular on the weekends, with half a million peole visiting each year, from other parts of the country, and from the Poconos area, too, as it is popular with local residents too. MOst come to swim in the lake, or hang out on the sandy beach during the summer months. Everything you could want in a beach is available to you, even showers and first aid.
Pohopoco Creek runs through the park, with picturesque farms and orchards all along its banks. The seven-mile lake is stocked with fish for all you anglers out there, and you can even water ski on the lake, after launching your boat at one of the boat launches available for visitors to the park.
Hunters can hunt on the land here, too, at least on parts of the land, and you can trap, too.
There are intrepretive programs for the educational-minded, that run from Spring through late Fall. Hike on 15 miles of trails and of course as with all the parks in the Poconos, cross country skiing in winter is fabulous here. The scenery is unbeatable and the trails are seemingly endess.
