The Poconos
Lake Wallenpaupack

There are dozens of lakes in the Poconos, covering a large expanse of natural land, with lots of things for nature lovers to do. The power company of Pennsylvania, PPL, has added to the natural beauty of the Poconos by creating yet another lake in this region. Lake Wallenpaupack is man-made, but offers many forms of natural recreation in the great Poconos outdoors. This lake is thirteen miles long and covers 5,700 acres and boaters just love it. Created in 1926, the lake is still maintained by Pennsylvania Power & Light, to the benefit of boaters, hikers, cross-country skiiers, and just about anyone who likes nature.

Anglers delight at Lake Wallenpaupack, too. And the trails around the lake make for lovely trail running or light hiking or just a brisk walk if that is your desire. In winter, the cross-country skiing here is good, with three nature areas to choose from, containing trails. There are even four little islands in the lake, and if you have a boat, you can head out to the island of your choice and have a picnic. PPL has even gone the extra mile to provide picnic facilities on the four islands.
