The Poconos
Major Regions
People visit The Poconos for various reasons...to visit the Delaware Water Gap area, to fish or hunt in the lakes, to explore and go antiquing in the little villages, to go hiking or walking on the trails, to see waterfalls. There are different activities in different areas of the Poconos, and to help you decide where to go and what to do on your vacation or day trip, we've divided the Poconos into five different regions. They are:
- Mount Pocono
Here's the famous part of the Poconos, where heart-shaped tubs will be found. Here you'll find the fancy lodges, resorts, historical inns, and bed & breakfasts. There are lots of wonderful places to stay, and lots to do outdoors, like hiking, fishing, swimming, skiing, you name it. This is why it's still one of the most popular honeymoon destinations, after all these years.
- Delaware Water Gap
Its heyday as a tourist destination in the early 1900s bespeaks the magnificent beauty of this region. Today, it's a tiny artist community with great Victorian Architecture and even greater scenery.
- Lake Wallenpaupack
This is a man-made lake, and water sports rule the day here. Also, close by are the cute Victorian town of Milford and plenty of state forest to play in.
- Stroudsburg
Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg are the busy hubs of the Poconos, containing a hospital, a University, and many small businesses.
- Jim Thorpe area
This town makes many tourists and locals alike think of Switzerland. It has narrow, steep winding streets and quaint shop-lined streets. All kinds of activities, outdoors and indoors, await you in Jim Thorpe. Busloads of tourists will attest to that!
