The Poconos
The Nature Conservancy in Northeastern Pennsylvania

This is a wonderful park that offers the Poconos visitor not only 14,000 acres of preserved land, but also a learning center you could spend a lifetime in. If you or any kids you know want to learn about Poconos animals, Poconos plants, or any aspect of Poconos ecology, this is the place to start. There are year-round adult learning programs, and programs for kids too. There are sponsored treks through various nature areas throughout the Poconos, such as Tannersville Cranberry Bog, Tohams Darling Preserve, Lost Lakes, and lots of other parcels owned by the Nature Conservancy in Pennsylvania, both in the Poconos and outside the Poconos.

Some of the special interest programs cover topics such as:

  • white-tailed deer
  • ospreys
  • blueberry picking
  • woodcarving
  • black bears
  • bird watching and identification

The folks at the Nature Conservancy in Northeastern Pennsylvanis are serious about what they do, which is protecting the land from development and other modern encroachments. They hold the Poconos region in particular esteem, having named it one of the world's Last Great Places. See for yourself...it's located on Long Pond Road in the town of Long Pond. If you know where the Pocono Raceway is, you're almost there.
