Tannersville Cranberry Bog is maintained by The Nature Conservancy in Northeastern Pennsylvania. There are a bunch of nature trails mainetained by the Conservancy, and these are open to the public year round. You can hike or go cross-country skiing. To find these public trails, just drive along Bog Road and you'll see the trailheads. Bog Road is near Cranberry Creek, which you can find on any map. The Conservancy also maintains parts of the bog, actually the bog itself, that are not open to the public. The only way to see these parts is to sign up for a Bog Walk. Bog walks are held in summertime and they cost almost nothing. They are two hours long and led by an informed guide who will tell you all about the ecological history of the bog and the unique plants that live here, some of which are mentioned above. Unfortunately they will not let you pick any cranberries...this is a land conservancy, not a cranberry farm! |
