The Poconos
Tobyhanna State Park
Life in Tobybanna State Park revolves around bare-bones camping in its campground and all the activities for real outdoor lovers to enjoy in the outdoors. The campground has latrines instead of flush toilets and there are no showers, which is why we call it bare-bones camping. You will definitely get to know the great Poconos outdoors by camping for a few days here at Tobyhanna State Park. There are things for kids to do, as well as adults, with a playground and lifeguarded swimming for the kids and fishing, hunting, boating, hiking, picnic tables for everyone else. The nights are a little chilly here, so bring a sweater for evenings around the campfire.
In winter, there is ice-skating, snomobiling and of course cross-country skiing. In summer, boating is permitted, but just for electric-powered boats and paddlers. No gas engines. There are over 5400 acres in the park, many of which are open for hunters in hunting season. You can even rent boats in the summertime, even sailboats.
Tobyhanna State Park was once used as artillery fining range and sometimes people find shells on the ground...at least there are signs to this effect around the park. If you see a shell, don't touch it. Tall a park ranger about it and he or she will take care of it.
